Google building Metro Chrome for Windows 8

Google building Metro Chrome for Windows 8

Google's support for Windows Phone is in shambles. But it has been reported that Google is working on a Chrome browser for Windows 8 that should work on some tablets. Today Google announced the next dev channel release of its Chrome browser which will have integration with Windows 8, including snap view and charms. There are new universal buttons at the Charms that slide out from the right side of the screen which includes Search, Share, Devices, Settings, and Start. With the Windows 8 integration the Chrome browser will look pretty nice. This version of Chrome is being constructed especially for desktops and laptops. It will not be available on Windows RT (ARM devices). Microsoft doesn't want competition on ARM devices so there will be some tablets that won't be able to run the app. There are Windows 8 devices which include Asus Transformer Book, or Asus Tablet 810 that will be compatible with Chrome.

Orange San Diego Intel Android mobile phone review

Orange San Diego Intel Android mobile phone review

Intel’s first mobile phone is a humble beginning, but the firm has mighty ambitions says Matt Warman.

The San Diego looks like many other Apple-inspired mobile phones, but inside it is a unique and special beast. This is the debut European mobile with Intel inside.
Exclusive to Orange, and originally announced as the Santa Clara, the first thing you notice when you turn on the San Diego is the network’s logo, followed by Intel’s classy equivalent. After that, however, consumers need never know what chip powers the device.
Indeed, this is a mid-range phone where cheaper equivalents are available, such as Huawei’s perfectly decent G300. Intel's initial aims are modest.
The San Diego does, however, bode well for the future. While its battery life is not exceptional, it is better than average for an Android smartphone. This means it lasts the day in my very unscientific tests of using it for nearly a week, and although it has a single core processor it runs Android Gingerbread more than adequately. An update to Ice Cream Sandwich is apparently coming later in the year.

Vodafone and Telefonica in 4G push with shared grid plan

Vodafone and Telefonica in 4G push with shared grid plan

Mobile operators Vodafone and Telefonica announced on Thursday plans to create one shared grid in Britain to improve existing coverage and speed the roll out of superfast broadband networks.

The agreement between Vodafone and Telefonica will allow the groups to build two competing fourth generation networks faster than could have been achieved independently.
The two groups, who already had an agreement to share new network sites, said they would strengthen their partnership by pooling their basic network infrastructure to take their national population coverage to 98pc by 2015.
The agreement will also allow the groups to build two competing fourth generation networks faster than could have been achieved independently.
"Exceptional customer demand for the mobile internet has challenged the mobile industry to consider innovative solutions to building a nationwide network that will be fit for our customers in the future and support the products and services that will truly make Britain digital," Ronan Dunne, chief executive of Telefonica UK, said.
"This partnership is about working smarter as an industry, so that we can focus on what really matters to our customers - delivering a superfast network up to two years faster than Ofcom envisages and to as many people as possible."
The two groups will form a joint venture to run the grid but they will still run independent spectrum and competing services off the infrastructure.
